Research strategies/ questions

1. Some things to watch out for in doing research:
  • Where is the information coming from?
  • Is the source credible?
  • Is the information verifiable?
  • What other ways can you research besides the internet?
  • Does the source cite sources?
  • Is it a primary or secondary source? Would using or looking at the primary source lend you more credibility? Would you understand your topic better if you did?
  • If you're not successful with a search, trying using synonyms
2. See if you can answer these questions:
  • Where did the concept of racism come from?
  • What is racism?
  • Who benefits?
  • How many people are in prison in the united states? Of those, how many are minorities?
  • What percentage of americans are in jail? How does that compare to apartheid South Africa?
  • How does that compare to Montana?
  • According to the last census, what is the ethnic break down of the population of Montana?
  • How does the average salary compare across ethnicities in Montana and in the United States?
