- Make a list of 3-5 things your reader could do about the issue you bring up in your Op-Ed. Think back to "Abolish the White House Lawn" where Michael Pollan suggests that President Bush Sr. make an example by replacing the White House lawn with either a Meadow, Wetland, Vegetable Garden, or an Orchard. What could your audience do to address your issue? What might be a savvy rhetorical claim to suggest they do which would still bolster your argument whether they take initiative or not? Could they sign a petition, would that be enough? Could they stop using certain kinds of cleaning products or carry mace or have a dam removed?
- Pick your top two ideas and do a free write on each, calling your audience to perform a specific action. Consider using this as a conclusion to your Op-Ed.
