Before Writing 101 I never knew how
to turn off my “inner editor” as I would begin writing my rough drafts. I
always would revise as I went along and I would never just let my imagination flow
onto the paper on its own. Doing free writes and other exercises in class
helped me to let my fingers pound out a few a paragraphs without even thinking
about mistakes, grammatical errors, or structure. Throughout this class I
experienced a lot of peer revision and I learned that having a lot of different
people read and critique your paper is one of the most helpful things you can
do for a solid revision.
Even though the thought of taking
my hands, balling them into fists and smashing my keyboard repeatedly until the
keys scattered the room, I really did find this class a helpful necessity to further
my future in writing. I learned a lot of different styles of writing and I
learned to incorporate my opinion into a lot of the essays. This course both
refreshed my memory on writing and expanded my knowledge in many different
ways.
